What is ron gettelfinger?

Ron Gettelfinger is a retired American labor union leader who served as the President of the United Auto Workers (UAW) from 2002 to 2010. He started his career at Ford Motor Company's Rouge plant in Dearborn, Michigan in 1964, and later joined UAW Local 276 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Gettelfinger rose through the ranks of the union, serving as an organizer, assistant to the UAW Vice President, and director of the union's Region 3 office in Indianapolis, Indiana before being elected president in 2002.

During his tenure as UAW president, Gettelfinger faced numerous challenges, including declining membership, increased competition from foreign automakers, and the 2008 financial crisis that led to the bailout of General Motors and Chrysler. He worked to negotiate contracts with the Big Three automakers that protected the jobs and benefits of UAW members while also helping to strengthen the companies' financial positions.

After retiring from the UAW in 2010, Gettelfinger remained active in the labor movement, serving on the executive board of the AFL-CIO, the country's largest federation of labor unions. He also worked as a consultant and advocate for workers' rights, and served on the boards of several charitable organizations focused on education, health care, and community development.
